KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Bharat Bahadur Khadka has officially filed his candidacy for the President of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) under the House of Representatives (HoR).

Khadka registered his nomination at the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Thursday, following the party’s decision to field him for the key parliamentary post.

His candidacy has garnered wide support, with opposition parties including CPN-UML and the Nepal Communist Party backing him.

The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has also decided to support the Nepali Congress candidate for the PAC chair, reinforcing the likelihood of a consensus-based selection.

Speaking after filing his nomination, Khadka expressed confidence that he would be elected unopposed, citing the long-standing parliamentary practice of allocating the PAC leadership to the main opposition party. “This is not about winning or losing. There is a tradition of consensus, and I believe the process will follow that path,” he said.

The nomination process comes as part of Thursday’s schedule for forming parliamentary committees under the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, the RSP has opted to back the opposition for the PAC leadership while positioning its own lawmakers to lead all other parliamentary committees, where it holds a majority.
