KATHMANDU: Actress and producer Nisha Adhikari suffered a heavy defeat in the recent parliamentary elections, losing to Sasmita Pokharel of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Kathmandu-5.

While Pokharel secured over 23,000 votes, Adhikari, representing the Gatisheel Loktantrik Party under the battery symbol, failed to secure even 1,000 votes.

Following the results, Adhikari took to Facebook to congratulate Pokharel and reaffirm her commitment to public service, stating that her dedication to policy-driven politics and citizen engagement would remain unwavering. She emphasized, “Our door-to-door dialogues will continue. Engaging directly with citizens, our efforts to build politics based on policies and agendas will persist.”

Adhikari framed her electoral loss not as an end, but as the beginning of a new chapter. She expressed that her dream of sending a woman representative from Kathmandu-5 to parliament remains alive and pledged to continue working toward that goal to the best of her ability.

Highlighting the current parliamentary scenario, she noted the risk of a weak opposition and stressed the importance of a strong democratic voice for citizens from outside the legislature. She reaffirmed her commitment to play a proactive role in holding the government accountable and representing public interests.

Adhikari concluded by underscoring that politics, for her, is not a quest for positions but a journey of service, values, and responsibility.
