KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal is in the process of amending four existing election-related laws to enable Nepali citizens abroad to exercise their voting rights and allow inter-district voting.

During a Monday all-party discussion on the upcoming House of Representatives election at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Deputy Secretary Anand Kafle stated that the amendments are being made in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling and various public demands.

The proposed changes include updates to the Election Act, 2073, and the Voter List Act to facilitate overseas voting.

The amendments also plan to introduce a “none of the above” option on ballots. Additionally, provisions are being made to allow voters to cast their proportional, direct, or both types of votes from districts other than their own.

Kafle also mentioned that security plans for the upcoming election have been drafted and are in the implementation phase.
