KATHMANDU: Expressing growing dissatisfaction with the government’s working style, the Gen Z group led by activist Miraj Dhungana is set to stage a protest today (Monday) at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu.

The group announced the peaceful protest during a press conference on Sunday, stating that the current government has failed to understand and internalize the spirit of the youth-led movement.

The demonstration is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am and will be centered at Maitighar.

The protesters will take to the streets with a 10-point demand charter, with their primary demand being the formation of an all-party government as an alternative political solution to the current crisis. According to the group, only an inclusive political leadership capable of dialogue and consensus can steer the country toward stability.

The demand document calls for fundamental changes in the country’s governance system. It highlights the need for state restructuring, political stability, and good governance, proposing either an all-party roundtable conference or a constitutional amendment assembly to rewrite the constitution.

Among other key demands, the group has issued an ultimatum to the government to withdraw what it calls false cases against arrested Gen Z protesters, release them immediately, and take action against those responsible for repression during past protests.

The demands also include the formation of a powerful anti-corruption eradication commission, live broadcasting of court verdicts, voting rights for Nepalis living abroad, and the implementation of the policy of “Once a Nepali, always a Nepali.” Additionally, the movement has incorporated longstanding issues such as the problems faced by loan shark victims, cooperative fraud victims, and sugarcane farmers, calling for their immediate resolution.

Speaking to the media, movement leader Miraj Dhungana accused the Sushila Karki-led government of failing to meet public expectations even after completing 100 days in office.

“We observed the government’s performance over the past 100 days, and it has failed to carry the spirit of our movement,” Dhungana said. “What the country needs now is political leadership that can build trust among all sides, initiate dialogue, and provide a clear way forward. That is why an all-party government has become an unavoidable necessity.”

The protest is expected to draw significant youth participation, adding pressure on the government amid rising public discontent.
