UML National Congress: Voting completes with 2, 227 votes cast

KATHMANDU: A total of 2,227 delegates have voted in the election that took place for a new leadership of the CPN-UML.

The voting took place under the 11th National Congress of the party underway in the federal capital.

The party’s Central Election Commission Vice Chair Sanuraj Pokharel shared that the voting concluded at the Congress venue, Bhrikutimandap with a total of 2,227 of 2,263 delegates casting their vote.

According to him, 36 people abstained from the voting.

He shared that preparations are underway to start the counting of votes, as some time is required to collect the documents for the counting of votes and establish a consensus.

The results will be out within three hours of the start of the counting.

Voting for the UML new leadership had begun at 9:12 am on Wednesday.

A total of 642 candidates had filed nominations for the post of 301 central members in UML.

For the vote, 80 electronic voting machines were used. Incumbent Chair KP Sharma Oli and Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokharel are leading different groups to be elected as the new leadership of the CPN-UML.
