KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered medical professional Durga Prasai to appear before the court.

On Friday, while hearing a habeas corpus petition, a single bench of Justice Srikant Paudel directed that Prasai be produced in court and that authorities explain the reasons for his arrest.

The petition had been filed on behalf of Prasai by Uma Prasai.

Before his arrest, Prasai had filed a writ at the Supreme Court against the Kathmandu Police, claiming that the police had tried to detain him forcibly.

Justice Nityananda Pandey’s bench had rejected his request for an interim order, following which Prasai was taken into custody on Monday.

Earlier, Prasai was also arrested on Feb 6 but released on bail.

At that time, the Cyber Bureau had investigated him over statements he made regarding the elections and released him after recording his statement.

Police have repeatedly detained Prasai, citing concerns that he might launch a campaign to disrupt the upcoming elections on March 5.

He was also taken into custody on Jan 19 in Pokhara, questioned, and later released.
