KATHMANDU: Ram Ashish Yadav was sworn in as the new Speaker of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly today.

Taking office at the Assembly Secretariat in Janakpurdham, Yadav emphasized that he will serve as a neutral guardian of the entire assembly rather than representing any single political party.

Highlighting the importance of dialogue and cooperation among political parties, he stated, “Differences of opinion are natural, but cooperation is essential.” He pledged to work with all parties for the development and welfare of the province.

Speaker Yadav outlined key priorities for the assembly, including Madhesh-related issues, inclusivity, good governance, access to education and healthcare, employment generation, and challenges in border areas.

He stressed the assembly’s need to maintain effective oversight over the executive, improve budget implementation, ensure transparency in public spending, and enhance the quality of services.

Expressing his commitment to running the assembly in accordance with democratic values, Yadav said, “The Speaker’s chair rises above political demands and biases. My duty is to make the Assembly accountable to the people while fully adhering to the Constitution, laws, and parliamentary rules.”

Urging lawmakers to maintain discipline, punctuality, and a culture of constructive debate, he called for active participation in committees and effective deliberation, amendment, and consensus-building on legislative matters.
