KATHMANDU: A joint meeting of major opposition parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and the Nepal Communist Party—is currently underway at Singha Durbar.

The meeting is attended by leaders including Arjun Narsingh KC and Bhishmaraj Aangdembe from the Nepali Congress, Padma Aryal and Guru Baral from CPN-UML, and Yubaraj Dulal from the Nepal Communist Party, among others.

The discussions are focused on forging a common candidate for the post of Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives. The meeting is expected to take a significant decision regarding the selection of a consensus nominee.

Leaders say this cooperation among opposition parties is aimed at strengthening parliamentary oversight and making the government more accountable.

According to parliamentary tradition, the PAC chair is typically assigned to an opposition party, and efforts are underway to finalize a shared candidate based on that practice.

Meanwhile, the Labour Culture Party has also announced its intention to field a candidate. It is expected that the candidate backed by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) could secure the committee leadership, depending on final political alignment.
