Aatiranjan Ko Manoranjan explores fame, illusion and modern anxieties

Kathmandu, April 17

A new theatrical production, Aatiranjan Ko Manoranjan, is currently being staged at Mandala Theatre, offering audiences a layered exploration of contemporary social dynamics and emotional contradictions.

Directed by Sagar Khati Kami, with Sumitra Pehim as assistant director and written by Samyog Guragain, the play blends performance with a conceptual narrative that its makers describe as “a concert of emotions, illusions and collapse.”

The production revolves around the modern tendency to rapidly elevate individuals to hero status, only to just as quickly dismiss them. Through its storyline, the play engages with pressing themes such as brain drain, complexities in relationships, and the impact of technological advancement on human behaviour.

It also portrays how individuals often continue to hold vested interests even after the death of those they once idolised.

The cast includes Som Nath Khanal, Sandeep Shrestha, Swopnil Ghimire, Yasoda Gurung and Sanam Shrestha, among others.

The play will run through April 26, with daily shows at 5:30 pm except on Mondays. An additional show is scheduled on Saturdays at 1:15 pm.
