KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to support the Nepali Congress candidate for the President of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) under the House of Representatives.

A meeting of the party’s parliamentary wing held at Singha Durbar made the decision, signaling a likely consolidation of support for the Congress nominee in the upcoming election.

The Nepali Congress is preparing to field Mohan Acharya as its candidate for the PAC chair. With RSP’s backing, the party is expected to gain broader support in the parliamentary contest.

Earlier, both the CPN-UML and the Nepal Communist Party had also decided to support the Congress candidate, indicating a rare consensus among major opposition forces on the issue.

According to leaders, opposition parties have already reached an understanding on the matter.

Nomination for the chairperson of parliamentary committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, is scheduled to take place today.
