US denies ceasefire extension, eyes Pakistan talks to end Iran conflict
KATHMANDU: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday dismissed reports claiming that the current ceasefire between the United States and Iran had been extended, stating that such information is “not true at this moment.”
Speaking at a White House press briefing, Leavitt said the Trump administration remains optimistic that ongoing negotiations could soon lead to a deal to end the weeks-long conflict.
Responding to questions about the venue for the next round of talks, she indicated that discussions are likely to resume in Islamabad, noting that the Pakistani capital had hosted the previous round of negotiations, which stalled late last week.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said fresh talks with Iran could take place in Pakistan within the next two days. Without providing a clear timeline, Trump also remarked on Wednesday that the United States and Israel are “very close” to ending the war with Iran.
