KATHMANDU: Bayern Munich have booked their place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after a thrilling 6–4 aggregate victory over Real Madrid, winning the second leg 4–3 in a dramatic encounter filled with goals, errors, and late drama.

The match exploded into life inside the opening minutes as both sides scored within six minutes, following costly mistakes from goalkeepers Manuel Neuer and Andriy Lunin. The game turned into a first-half spectacle, producing five goals before the break.

Arda Güler struck twice for Real Madrid, while Kylian Mbappé also found the net. For Bayern, Harry Kane scored as the German giants kept themselves firmly in the contest. By half-time, the tie was level at 4–4 on aggregate.

Real Madrid’s momentum shifted dramatically in the second half when Eduardo Camavinga received a second yellow card for time-wasting, leaving his side reduced to ten men at a crucial stage.

Bayern capitalised late in the game. Luis Díaz scored from distance in the 89th minute, with his effort deflecting in off Éder Militão, before Michael Olise sealed the victory in stoppage time to complete Bayern’s comeback.

The match also saw disciplinary controversy, as Arda Güler was later shown a red card after the final whistle following a confrontation with the referee.

The tie also produced several milestones. Harry Kane reached 50 goals in a single season across Europe’s top five leagues, matching Erling Haaland’s 2022–23 record. Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé became the first player to score 10 away goals in a single Champions League campaign. Güler’s early strike also set a record as the fastest Champions League goal scored by a Real Madrid player.

Bayern will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.

In the other quarter-final, Arsenal also advanced to the last four after a disciplined performance against Sporting CP, progressing 1–0 on aggregate.

Following their first-leg advantage through a late goal from Kai Havertz, Arsenal held Sporting to a goalless draw at home to secure qualification.

Sporting created several dangerous chances through Francisco Trincão, Viktor Gyökeres, and Maxi Araújo, but Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya stood firm as the Premier League side protected their slender lead.

Late pressure from Sporting included a shot that struck the post, while Leandro Trossard also came close for Arsenal with a header that hit the woodwork.

Arsenal will now face Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals after completing a hard-fought European triumph.
