46 Nepali nationals rescued from Cambodia, repatriated safely
KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok has successfully rescued 46 Nepali nationals from Cambodia and facilitated their safe return to Nepal.
According to the embassy, all individuals have already arrived back home.
The rescue operation was carried out with the cooperation of the Cambodian government after it was confirmed that the Nepali citizens, who had reached Cambodia through various channels, were being forced into illegal work.
The embassy stated that many of the victims had traveled to Cambodia in search of attractive job opportunities.
Alarmingly, data shared by the mission shows a sharp rise in Nepali migration to Cambodia in recent years—101 in 2021, 1,977 in 2022, 2,940 in 2023, 6,404 in 2024, and 9,676 in 2025.
In light of the growing risks, the embassy has urged Nepali citizens not to travel to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand without proper labor approval, warning against illegal recruitment and unsafe employment channels.
