KATHMANDU: Shobha Pathak has launched an indefinite hunger strike at Maitighar Mandala, demanding the arrest and investigation of CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet over a series of serious allegations, including rape, foeticide, and theft-related charges.

Holding placards at the protest site, Pathak has publicly raised multiple accusations against Basnet, calling for immediate legal action and a thorough investigation.

Her banners reportedly describe Basnet in strong and controversial terms and demand that he be brought under legal jurisdiction without delay.

She also alleged political protection and questioned why he has not been arrested despite the severity of the accusations.

Pathak has further demanded that the case file currently under the Patan High Court in Lalitpur be promptly handed over to the police, arguing that unnecessary delays in the justice process are obstructing fair proceedings.

She stated that prolonged delays in justice effectively amount to denial of justice and urged the government to ensure a speedy legal process.

She has also warned against what she described as repeated obstruction of justice and called for an end to any attempts to shield individuals accused of serious crimes.

Raising concerns over possible political interference or deal-making, she has insisted on an impartial investigation.

As of now, the concerned authorities have not issued any official response regarding the protest or the allegations.
