KATHMANDU: A dispute over wedding music in Sabgadha, Gaur Municipality-6, Rautahat, escalated into violent clashes, leaving the village tense and prompting a heavy security deployment.

The incident began Thursday night when a Hindu wedding procession with traditional music passed near the local mosque, where a Muslim congregation was holding prayers.

A verbal argument erupted over the noise, which escalated after some members of the Muslim community reportedly attacked a DJ team, worsening the situation.

By Friday morning, the tension reignited, leading to stone-pelting between the two groups, turning Sabgadha into a scene of chaos.

In response, authorities deployed over 250 security personnel, including Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the Nepal Army, to restore order.

Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal confirmed the incident and said security teams, led by SPs Sitaram Rijal and Ramhari Adhikari, are now on the ground managing the situation. “It is unfortunate that such incidents disrupt social harmony. The situation is under control, and we are facilitating dialogue between the two communities to resolve the issue,” he said.

Authorities continue to monitor the area closely to prevent further escalation.
