Rahabar Ansari elected unopposed as Industry Committee President

KATHMANDU: Rahabar Ansari of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has been elected unopposed as the President of the Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare Committee.

The declaration was made on Friday by the committee’s senior member Tek Bahadur Gurung after Ansari was the sole candidate for the post.

After his election, President Ansari said he would fulfill his responsibilities within the scope of parliamentary committee duties and authorities.

He emphasized that the committee would focus on addressing public concerns rather than limiting its work to formal reports.

Stating that the committee operates under clear terms of reference (ToR), he said it would actively listen to citizens’ issues and work to resolve them.

“The committee will not limit itself to studying bills and giving suggestions. It will function as a mechanism to address problems affecting people’s lives,” Ansari said, adding that efforts would be made to transform the committee into an effective problem-solving institution.

He also noted that past performance of parliamentary committees would be reviewed and efforts made to improve their effectiveness going forward.

RSP’s Dr Ojashwi Sherchan elected President of Education Committee

KATHMANDU: Ojashwi Sherchan of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has been elected President of the House of Representatives’ Education, Health and Information Technology Committee after defeating UML candidate Guru Baral in a parliamentary vote on Friday.

In the election held today, Baral was in a minority despite receiving backing from the Nepali Congress and the CPN support bloc.

Sherchan secured a clear majority and was subsequently declared the winner.

Following the announcement, Baral congratulated Sherchan on her victory, marking a cordial conclusion to the contest.

The meeting was chaired by senior-most member Mahabir Pun.

Lamichhane calls for active Parliament, supports broad asset probe

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has emphasized the need for a disciplined and active Parliament, stating that the legislature must move forward in an orderly and effective manner.

Speaking to journalists after a parliamentary committee meeting, Lamichhane said the primary responsibility of Parliament is to formulate and amend necessary laws.

He expressed confidence that the House would proceed with wisdom and responsibility.

He also expressed optimism about the role of the Speaker, saying he expects a positive contribution in ensuring smooth parliamentary proceedings.

Lamichhane further remarked that this year presents an opportunity to address and end the social anomalies and irregularities prevailing in society.

On recent discussions regarding the alleged disproportionate assets of the Prime Minister and ministers, Lamichhane clarified that all individuals holding public office fall under the scope of investigation.

He noted that a commission has already been formed and its Terms of Reference (ToR) include everyone from the Prime Minister to ministers, ensuring a comprehensive probe.

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has said that the government-formed asset investigation commission will also scrutinise him as part of its wider mandate.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Lamichhane claimed that the commission is designed to begin its probe from earlier records and extend the investigation forward, adding that all individuals fall within its terms of reference.

He also said that ministers have already submitted their asset details along with declared sources of income. “When submitting property details, there is a column to mention the source. Even if not, we have formed an investigation commission. It will start from the beginning and continue its probe. We are all already included in the terms of reference. My bank statement is already public. We are not outside the investigation. The same rules apply to everyone,” he said.

Ganesh Parajuli appointed RSP’s deputy leader in HoR

KATHMANDU: Ganesh Parajuli has been appointed as the deputy leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in the House of Representatives.

A meeting of the RSP’s parliamentary party held on Thursday decided to pick Parajuli for the position, according to RSP General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti.

Parajuli was re-elected to the House of Representatives from the Kathmandu-7 constituency in the March 5 elections.
